Can anyone suggest where I can get a sliding hinge for a Conway Crusader, I called Pennine and the price they quoted is just way too high.

As long as it lets me fold the wardrobe up and down and slid it into place, I don’t mind if it is not Conway hinge

Hi there

sorry can't help you with the wardrobe slider.  We are in the same boat we need one for a conway cruiser.  Did you manage to source one cheaper than pennine were quoting?  any help would be great.

Or you could try Tent Valeting Services at Bolton. Google them, they are now the main repairers for Conways and Pennine and have a stock of spares, but you will be better off ringing them cos they aint too quick answering emails, otherwise they give excellent service.

Or ... how about dumping the cupboard altogether and gaining a great storage space ... what we are doing! Never used the cupboard that much as needs to be lightly loaded for transport ...

I believe Pennine & their dealers are the only source. Someone was hoping to make an extruded aluminium alternative but I don't think he got enough response to make it worthwhile.

I don't really understand the comment "gaining a great storage space" really - you're losing storage but gaining an extra top (which would gather c**p in my case).

We've taken the wardrobe out, like Kelper. It's great as it makes the camper look much more spacious. We find we've got much more room to store our clothes bags when travelling and can turn the fridge on for travelling without having to put the camper up.

I can see how not having the cupboard creates a spacious feel in the camper but I don't understand how it creates a "storage space".

How does that work?

We've put shelves in our wardrobe which gives us loads of usable storage space (larder when camping and somewhere for the pillows etc when folded)

Creates storage space whilst on the move ... we put our inflatable boats there ... they wouldn't fir with the cupboard in its travelling position.

Crazy Clive our Pulman 1993/4 tall cupboard is attched but what looks like Curtain Track (i'm sure it is) wether this is standared fitting or a home made job I've no idea, but it works. I've some pics I made up as a help to explain.

first a pic of the curtain tracks  1 2 &3 the sliding track

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Fishy1/P5061443.jpg

2nd  track 1&2 put together & 3 sliding track turned over

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Fishy1/P5061444.jpg

3rd  the turned over sliding track is slipped over where tracks 1&2 come to-gether,this is the piece that a bit of piano hinge is attached with VERY SMALL nuts and bolts, as the bolt heads are inside the sliding track and need to be very small or they'll stop the track sliding (might need to file the heads) once the hinge is fitted

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Fishy1/P5061445.jpg

the last pic shows the type of curtain holders used with this track

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Fishy1/P5061446.jpg

Do'nt know if this is what your after, but if it is and you want any more info just ask. Jock

A very interesting thread... our Pathfinder's wardrobe sliding hinge is intact but only barely. We were surprised how shoddy the arrangement was. The screws that attach the slider section to the "wood" have very little grip. It makes  access and assembly a much more delicate operation for a fatty like me than ever is shown on the promotional videos! Trying to negotiate it sometimes reminds of of a game of Twister!

I've been thinking we'd be far better off with the empty space on top of the fridge too. I have a collapsible camping larder that would fit there very well and I can take that into my house to load up pre-departure, store it where the cupboard is for transport but easily remove it to open the fridge or start the toilet assembly. Can't do that with the "wardrobe".

Thank you everyone who tried to h elp us with a new slider for the wardrobe.  Think we have solved it, or at least my other half has.  He took a long piano hinge cut it in two lengthways and put that inside the broken part.  Then he screwed it all together and it seems to have worked.  Only time will tell of course.
