Hi Everyone

We are off to Scotland for two weeks at the end of August.  Any advice, or tips on must see things to do  whilst in Scotland or en route would be appreciated. We only bought our caravan in Feb this year  so this will be our first big trip.  Firstly, we're staying just outside Edinburgh for three nights so we can visit the fringe festival and will leave there on the Saturday before the August Bank Holiday to begin our 'real' holiday.

• Edinburgh, Drum Mawr (3 nights) 
• Clachan Caravan club site, near Killin (2 nights)
• Culloden Moor Caravan site, near Inverness (2 nights)
• Morvich Caravan Club site, west coast (2 nights)
• Bunree Caravan Club site, Onich (2 nights)
• North Ledaig, Oban (2 nights)
• Low Manesty Caravan Club site, Keswick (4 nights)

All tips and advice welcome. 

We've had half a dozen weekends away fairly close to home and a week at whit so far. I should also point out we'll be travelling to Scotland from Leicestershire!!

There's only one thing better than touring Scotland.

Careful over the hump back bridge into Grange especially if you have a motor mover. From the site cross the road, down a bit till the trees have gone and there is a path on your right which takes you right up onto Catbells. Easier route than the scramble from Hawes End. Once on top just enjoy the views over Derwent to Blencathra, Waller Crag (Peregrins) and Skiddaw.  Anyway, turn left at the top and head for High Spy and then Dale Head and down into Honnister Pass (cup of tea at the cafe) and then back along the river through Borrowdale (Maybe take in Castle Crag) and come out in Grange and then just a stroll up the road to the camp site. The easier days walk would be to head for Grange from the site and just before the village take the path on your left which heads for the Lake. Then just walk all the way round the lake. Nice gentle amble through woods and along the shore line.

In the woods around the site look for lesser spotted woodpeckers, bit of a rarity but I spotted one there.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  Firstly, We definately won't be having the deep fried mars bars. But, we are partial to battered haggis.

Are the midges likely to be bad in Sep? Had hoped they'd migrated by then.

We've previously been to the borders (3 times) and to Edinburgh and wanted a taster of a bit further a field.  We are fairly early birds so intend to be up and on the road by 10am latest in a morning so will have an afternoon and a full day in each place to explore.

OH has motorbiked around the coast of Scotland years ago with his mates so knows a little about the coastal roads/views and I'm itching to get going - three more weeks in work.

Bernie47 I stand corrected I should have said the ENGLISH bank holiday!!! If only I was already on the road.

As for whiskey sadly we are both heathens and can't stand the stuff so no distilleries stops for us Viggo.

Any attractions or sights we shouldn't miss?

We both enjoy walking and haven't been back to the lakes in over 11 years.  We used to live an hour and a half away and spent many years camping in a tent any week-end that the weather was dry at various sites but Lime Kiln Park was one of our favourites.
