Our Gold DofE group chose this site as their last night stay for their practice expedition, and they had a wonderful time (while we were on a campsite in Braithwaite!)
As others have said, the site was a bit muddy but with over a week of rain pretty much non-stop, virtually every site in the Lake District was muddy / boggy in areas!
We visited the site a few times during the afternoon / evening and spoke to Gareth each time, he was very helpful! He certainly seemed to go above and beyond the call of duty, was extremely friendly and easy-going and quite happy to help those less fortunate souls who got their cars stuck in the muddy bits!
We were able to advise in advance how many were going to be camping, prices were very reasonable. Facilities are basic, but at the end of the day, beyond a loo, sink and shower what more do you need with such stunning scenery?!
Definitely looking forward to staying at this site myself when I am next in the area, a lovely find and not too far off the 'beaten track' either!

As other reviews have said this site has basic facilities. No club etc, but even though it rained for most of our stay our family party of 8 enjoyed our 6 days at lanefoot and we do intend to stay again. A beautiful quite site I do hope it doesn't get too commercial. Gareth the owner as everyone has stated is magic. On our last night we went for a meal at the royal oak in bassenswaite and 8 of us ate fantastic filling food for £70, this food was above your normal pub grub standard. Worth a visit if you fancy a night off from cooking

Fantastic find, just outside of Keswick with brilliant views of skiddaw and the surrounding area. I arrived in the rain and mud on a Wednesday morning and found everything a bit muddy, but that's the way things go. The location to keswick is fantastic for anyone who wishes to visit the lakes, and the friendly atmosphere is ideal. There is a small shop on site selling the essentials (bread, Milk etc), showers, washing up and a drying room for when things get really wet. I really didn't want to leave and will certainly be back again. If you are a family or the lone camper you could do a lot worse than here, the proximity to the A66 makes it ideal for day trips away, or just nipping into keswick. One of the better things has to be the campfires available from the owner, really adds that little bit extra you don't always find when camping on a site. If you are looking in the area for a site that is easily accessible and in a superb location, consider this one, it was well worth it for me so give it a go.

Arrived to rain and mud. If I had the money, would have booked into a b&b. Had travelled for five and half hours, and not impressed. I have been a camper for many many years, surviving wind / rain. Due to the muddy ground, had to leave car and carry all equipment / tent to pitch. My friend has never been to the lake district, and certainly not endured these conditions.
However, the help from owner (gareth) was beyond the call of duty. We set up and spent the remainder of the day in the tent. Facilities are basic, campfires in abundance. The scenery from every angle is spectacular. For us, Gareth was the saviour of the day. This man works so hard it put me to shame, yet he was always there to help, stop and chat, friendly and helpful.
This is a farm, character it has, to be fully appreciated by those who are like minded. I did not want to leave and we had some fab neighbours who made our stay enjoyable and interesting. I wanted to have a job there, but sadly there isn't anything going, but i'll work on that.
I will never go to anywhere else but Lanefoot Farm. Please give it a try. Don't be put off by the mud as I nearly did. And as I say, for all the years of camping, I have never come across a site owner who is as great as Gareth. We will return, regularly if I lived nearer.
Keswick is just minutes drive from the site. Best place ever. Thanks Gareth, Helen (Owners) and Jill, Alan, and children (Fellow campers) you were great company. The gazebo and potatoes much appreciated.

This was only our second time camping as a family and was a final test for my OH after a washout last year in Pitlochry. If this wasn't good he'd never go camping again. But I'm glad to say our three day visit was a great success.
Lanefoot Farm offers the best of both worlds as far as I can see. You get the basic facilities of a shower and toilets and EHU if you want but also the joy of uncramped pitches and the ability to have a fire in the evenings.
As has been said before the facilities are basic and dated but they are kept clean and on a busy weekend I only once had a 5 min wait for a shower.
It was generally nice and quiet even though most people were sitting around their fires with a drink and a natter till pretty late.
We ate at two pubs/hotels nearby. Middle Ruddings Hotel is closest, it's quite expensive but had lovely food and very friendly. The Royal Oak is cheaper. Main courses were lovely, starters not so good and the atmosphere wasn't great even though it was busy.
Lanefoot is a great campsite that I hope doesn't change too much in the future (only another shower or two would be nice), and a great place to explore from. Like I said this was the litmus test for my OH re camping and he enjoyed it so much that before we left he booked another three night stay with Gareth for the end of August. I think that says it all really.

What a fantastic site! Although helped by the scorching weather this weekend, our three night stay here just left us wanting more!
We came with friends, one of whom has only ever experienced wild camping and was sceptical of organised sites. All the elements of this site served to impress. The location is fantastic - we were in the main field looking over Skiddaw to the east and Whinlatter Forest's densely wooded slopes to the north west. Far enough from the facilities to give the impression of independent camping yet in reality just a field's walk away. There are only three toilets per sex and one shower each, but chatting with Gareth, the owner, we learned this is something to be improved next season. Although we were all in agreement not to go too far in spoiling the essence of the place. Top marks for cleanliness and upkeep.
If you want commercialism, don't go. There is no play area as such but the farm garden has a trampoline and paddling pool and seems to be open to kids at certain times. There is a stream nearby, and our ten year old was certainly not bored. There is a little shop selling essentials, and the bags of wood supplied for the camp fires are enough to keep them burning till at least 2am. We know! Quiet rules apply after 10.30pm. But sitting out chatting quietly is certainly no problem.
The four ducks waddling round each day caused much amusement, and the visit of one of the farm's collies each afternoon checking out the tents gave our Jack Russell something to look forward to! She loved the walks nearby and has slept solidly since getting home!
Can't add much else - just go and make your own mind up! Check out the shooting stars on a clear night!
We will definitely be back!
