Hi, just arrived home after spending 2 nights on this site. There was my husband, me and our dog, visiting family nearby.

It is lovely and friendly, a campsite on a farm with the River Dart running at the bottom of it. Kids playing in it and my dog too.

It is a site for relaxing and taking life slow.

Yes there are not many toilets & only 1 shower but they were kept very clean at all times & we didn`t find this a problem.

I can not fault this site at all, location is beautiful, cost £5 per person, tent free and dog too.

Great weekend.

We stayed at Beara Farm after reading good reviews on this site. We were not disappointed, lovely quite rural site. River Dart at the end of the next field with the steam railway running alongside.

Good value for money and plenty of room for the children to play. Just pitch where you want in the field. Owner comes round each morning for payment.

You do have to cross a single track lane to use the facilities next to the farmhouse so would have to accompany younger children to the toilet.

Be prepared to wait on occasions for toilets, shower and washing up area but all adds to the charm - seasoned campers would not mind! Facilities are kept clean.

We will go back again.

I spent two nights at Beara Farm and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The site is on a slight slant but in no way interferes with sleeping.

The toilets were well kept and the showers were full of hot water, although if the site had been busier I can imagine a spot would have been hard to come by.

The river at the bottom of the field was beautiful and made me wish I was a child again as I would definitely have gone for a paddle.

The surrounding area was stunning and while a car or bike would be useful, I walked into Buckfastleigh and on to Buckfast Abbey in little over 30 minutes, not a considerable distance.

This is one of my favourite sites ever. All the criticisms of the other reviews are true - you do have to queue for the loos, you do have to have a car to get anywhere, and the site does slope. BUT it is an utterly beautiful place, every time I go back I expect to be disappointed, but I never am. It is the sort of campsite where you have to slow down, nothing hurries around here, I take off my watch when I arrive and just let things happen at their own pace - including the queues. John (the owner) always has time for a chat, and you can knock on his door at any time of day if you need him. The campsite is small, quiet, and perfect for just relaxing. If you want a busy holiday, then this is not the place for you, but if you want a break, I can't think of anywhere better to be.

The facilities are very basic, but they are cleaned several times a day, and all that queueing helps me to slow down!

The River Dart runs right across the bottom of the campsite, it's great for swimming(though freezing cold)chasing the trout, and sitting watching the steam train. If there has been heavy rain you do need to be careful though, the river can run very fast.

Go to Buckfast Abbey for lunch on Sunday, more queues but well worth the wait.

We stayed here just after the August bank holiday weekend and it was still extremely busy.

Access to the site was a bit hard to find. It is down a very narrow road, which would prove a little hair raising for large campers and caravans - particularly as the dustbin lorry belts along it at speed and it is only wide enough for 1 vehicle.

There are only 3 toilets, a couple of showers and 1 washing up sink. They are well kept, but we did have to queue. We resorted to waking up at 7am in order to use the facilities.

Half of the site is on a pretty steep slope, which is not ideal, particularly for tents. Although the site should be quiet, on the other side of the river is the steam train line and a fairly busy road. The noise does carry across to the site, although trees screen most of it.

The owner is friendly, but as he collects the site fees every morning, you may have to hang around until he turns up - especially if the site is busy.

You do really need a car to get around in as nothing is very close by. A bike would do, but then you would have to run the gauntlet of the narrow access road. There is a cash point & a good Co-op in Buckfastleigh and the chip shop is excellent.

We camped with our tent (2 adults and one 10 year old) and the in laws in a motor home (access was a little tight for the motor home though). Lovely basic camp site and only a £10 per night. No electric hook up avallible however. Site was a large field that was on a slight slant, to the end of the site there was a gate that lead into an other field and also access to the river dart.Site loos and showers were great for the cheap price of the pitch however at peek times you did have to Que. No shops or pubs within walking distance so a car or bikes a must. Great site to meet others at with loads of room, kids would love the river that flows past the site however kids who do play in the river which at first looks very fast flowing do need supervision at first and was very cold(couldn't keep the boy or the dogs out).Half hour to 45mins to main attractions and places so location pretty good. For those who like steam trains railway track the other side of the river. All in all a great holiday and would visit again in the future.
