We visited Dalston Hall for two evenings camping and it is an absolutely fantastic site. The owners were so welcoming and helpful and it was brilliant value for money (£16 for a 4 man tent with 2 adults). The shower block/toilets were all modernised and sparklingly clean. The site was immaculate and had a park for the little ones and a shop. The bar meals were delicious and great value. There's a pool table and a dart board and we were there for Gaga bingo and thought it was a fantastic idea that they were raising funds for a local charity (Eden Valley Hospice). I really couldn't rate the site highly enough, well worth a visit and we will definitely return. Thanks everyone on site.

This is run by a family who made us welcome from start to finish. The pitches are large and level with full services for £17 per night, great value. According to my other half the ladies toilets have been modernised to a high standard and site owner tells me gents is next for refurbishment. They were finishing laundry room when we were there. Will definitely be back. Dalston is only a short walk from site.

We stayed here for just over a week and the owners fell over themselves to make us feel welcome, they could not do enough to help make our stay enjoyable.

The site is level and well drained although we arrived just after a very wet period and the pitch was soft and a little muddy, when we lifted our tent we had almost destroyed the grass (for which I apologise) It was not their fault.

The hook up points were close and had water taps on the stand. The female showers had just been upgraded and are fabulous, the mens facilities are dated and I tried to have a late evening shower and there was no hot water and still cost 20p for a shower but I understand these are getting upgraded this winter but they were clean and usable.

The children enjoyed the play area. The village is easily accessed by vehicle or foot. The food in the clubhouse is simple fair but very well cooked and presented.

I could not recommend Dalston Hall more highly and will return.

£17. 00 per night £2. 50 for full awning and £1 each child (two adults in main price and electric). Caravan prices. They do accept tents but take into consideration my comments on drainage. :)

All hard standing for caravans and two RV pitches too. Each pitch has electric and water services.

We arrived just before 12 and was welcomed by the friendly owners. We chose a pitch and paid after. The park is protected with gates and an overhead height restriction barrier. The gates are open between 7am and 10pm. Caravans will not fit under the barrier, it is opened on request by the owner.

My experience: The grassed areas are very badly drained so any sight of rain and it's sodden. The play area is in the middle of the grassed area and was a mire. Take wellies!

The hard standing was covered in large granite chips instead of the normal small chips, so even though we had two layers of ground sheet and one of carpet it was still too knobbly to walk on in bare feet.

The hard standing hardly accommodated the car after pitching the awning and setting the caravan. Our services were not working properly. The water supply wouldn't work half way through the week (to be fair we didn't moan about it) and the drain for waste water was blocked on at least two of the pitches. Rubbish is only emptied once a week on Tues. Probably not a good idea to pitch near the bins.

The toilet facilities - What can I say? The ladies has just had a refit, all modern no-touch taps and two showers (the third shower is an original push button type).

The renovation seems unfinished, there is grout still on the tiles and there was finger marks around the door handles, locks and behind the cubicle doors, these were there ALL week. The showers had soap scum on the glass and grass all over the plug hole (again there ALL week).

The mens were not renovated and all still standard, my husband would only go in if absolutely necessary. The walls are white gloss paint that is peeling and the whole place smelt like a rugby players jock strap! I think you can imagine the sweaty wee smell I mean.

IMO they have spent a little money on the site but are not maintaining the facilities. A proverb springs to mind (thanks dad) 'spoiling the barrel for a penny of tar. '

They have a reception area where they sell some confectionery (this is only open on request). There is a golf course (not tested) and a club house (also not tested) they have a monthly fun quiz. Where to quote 'the man who runs the quiz may poke fun at you' apparently in a fun way. Make your own conclusions!

Friendly owners. Cheap prices for August. Good location for visiting the lake district and West Scotland. Not going to visit this site again.

The good things first. The owner and his family who run this site are very welcoming and helpful. It is in a good area to visit Carlisle with a good market and shops (the home of cumberland sausage), the Castle, Tulley house, nice parks and rivers, Homehead Bay waterfall etc. The Lake District is not far off.

The ladies toilet was very good but gents facilities are dated although clean, apart from muddy feet. In the gents you come out of the shower cubicle in your underpants to put 20p in a slot for the shower to start. There is a licensed club on site but we did not look in or use it. There is a small shop with basics and camping and golf equipment, opened when requested at reception next door.

Decent size pitches with water and drainage. Good TV reception area. The hardstandings were made up of large chippings as mentioned in an earlier review. Not nice to walk on. Some of the hardstandings are below the grass level and filled up with about 4 inches of rainwater at one end, entering some awnings. The owner went around with a water pump to help drain them. He said he was planning more drainage on the site. Playground had muddy puddles, wellies needed. On leaving the site I could not empty my toilet cassette as the facility was blocked.

We will return as the owners are so friendly and I am sure they will improve the sites problem areas.

Well this has to be the most tranquil camp site that we have ever been to in 15yrs of camping. From the moment we pulled up, until we drove away, the owners and their family were very friendly and helpful. The whole site is very spacious and immaculate. All pitches are a really good size and with hardstanding and all had water and electric very close by.

Toilet block: Ladies toilets well what can I say apart from wow. They are really modern, clean and spacious and free showers. Men's toilets are clean and tidy but in need of a bit of an update and showers are 20p for more than sufficient time.

On site: Small children's play park, Small shop, Gas bottles, maps, and such like.

Club house: Two small bars which serve food which is well priced and plenty of it.

Golf course: 9 hole golf course on site which seemed very popular.

This site is close to the village of Dalston with good range of small shops and 5 mile from Carlisle City centre.
