We love this site. It is our weekend getaway as is only 90 mins from home. This weekend was a change of booking as we couldn't make the original September booking but via email, the site managers were extremely helpful in changing our dates.
Our pitch was one of the few smaller pitches as we didn't book an awning this time. Most pitches are large with hardstanding for the van and grass next to it, and enough space between that you don't feel on top of one another!
The part we love most about this site is the on site facilities. Our 5 year old loves deciding which of the 3 play areas she will go to first, we love the fact the on site pub is next to one of the play areas (great meals available in the evening), and the shop is very reasonably priced and seems to stock everything you could possibly leave at home!
Toilet facilities are very clean and enough of them for the size of site.
Penrith is a great day out, with lots of local shops and great stops for coffee and lunch. We also love Brougham Hall - go and have a latte at the cafe, and make a donation to the restoration of the hall. And nowhere is off limits at the Hall so you get to see everything, unlike some restoration projects.
We also love Lowther Castle and went for the first time just as restoration had started so it is great going back and seeing the progress being made.
We took advantage of the free storage this weekend and so our van is still at Lowther and we are going up again on Friday till Sunday for only £38 - bargain!

We spent 5 nights at this lovely campsite and would thoroughly recommend it. Having read the previous reviews I was very pleasantly surprised to find excellent facilities. There are plenty of shower and toilet facilities, not once did I find them to be dirty or in short supply. There are 2 blocks and when one is being cleaned the other is a minute further walk along the path. The cleaning times are clearly displayed so easy to plan around them.
Being that we were there in a peak period (26 Jul-1Aug) I would have expected some queues for facilities, but not once did we queue. Did not find the key thing a problem, just got to remember to take it with you! We paid an extra £5 deposit so we could get an extra key for the toilet blocks - which I would recommend doing.
The campsite itself is lovely, our children aged 9, 6 and 4 thoroughly enjoyed the parks and football area. Some tent pitches are on a slope, but a lot are flat. Water and electric very close. Lovely walks around the capsize.
Excellent shop on site which sells everything you could possibly need, very friendly owners. The pub is also very nice, not tacky - modern and clean.
Agree with previous review about tourers, the touring area is very crammed and shaded with tall trees.
Personally think this site had got some undeservedly bad reviews recently, the plus side of that being a very nice surprise on arrival. Would definitely go back.

Just got home from Lowther park after a lovely week, This park has everything you could want for a brilliant holiday.
The forest and riverside walks on site are unspoilt and lead up to lowther castle, the site is quiet and peaceful yet has 3 play areas and a football pitch for the kids.
The facilities on site are excellent. Staff can't do enough for you. There is a very well stocked mini market, take away and pub restaurant you really don't have to leave the site. I will certainly be returning very soon.

Very nice site. The river walk is really good with grass areas to sit at and places to paddle or to swim.
The woman on reception was very nice but did not know where the water points or toilets are. I went to the general manager's office and he pointed them out to me by marking them on the site map I was given. Pity they were not already printed on. He told me TS was toilets and showers.
We had a tourer with awning and our family were next to us with two large tents. 6 adults and 4 children. Good sized pitches next to each other, Boundaries not marked could cause arguments.
Very good facilities for children of all ages. 4 available WCs were filthy and flush on one did not work 9. 30am Bank holiday Sunday. I had to walk to the second block and found one that was not too bad. They seem to only clean them once a day around 10am. Very bad management for a Bank Holiday with all pitches full. I see the previous review mentioned similar. One block is available if the other is closed.
The showers were good with a decent dressing area. We had a very good time here and will definitely return hoping constructive criticism is taken onboard. 8 for the pitches as they don't have water, drainage and TV hook up. 10 for the site itself. 4 for the toilets saved from a zero by sinks showers etc.

We stayed at this site for 5 nights over the bank holiday with friends, we had 2 tents, 4 children and a dog.
On arrival at the site the entrance is lovely and very well maintained, we were greeted by a member of staff who didn't know how to book us in and told us that the pitches we had booked and paid in full for were unavailable and we were allocated another 2 pitches.
The pitches were on an incline and were very cramped, we felt that the other campers were right on top of us which also made for a lot of noise.
The toilets and showers were only cleaned once a day so first thing in the morning and late afternoon they were often dirty and we had to speak to the staff on a couple of occasions about the cleanliness and the lack of flushing toilets in the gents.
The toilets and showers are closed for cleaning between 10. 30 am and 12. 00 everyday which is a ludicrous time, by the time we had eaten breakfast and washed up the showers were closed so we had to wait until lunchtime for a shower.
On the plus side the dog walk was great and the children enjoyed the play park and games room. However we won't be returning, we would prefer a site with more room where camping isn't an afterthought to statics.

Possibly the worst site we have ever stayed on.
This site is all about cramming as many people on it as possible to maximise revenue. There are hundreds of statics, wall to wall, with the touring area as an afterthought.
Having driven along a magnificent avenue, through the park we expected great things. The gatekeeper told us that the site was virtually empty having cleared out after the half term holiday the week before. It was however still three quarters full.
We parked on a very narrow pitch and within 3 hours of our arrival were involved in a very aggressive confrontation with our neighbours who had decided to park their car within 2 feet of our habitation door.
As the evening went on it became apparent that most of the caravans that surrounded us were being lived in and were not tourers. As we retired for the night at about 10. 30pm the male occupants of 4 adjacent caravans were busy sawing up pallets for a bonfire!
The two nearby toilet blocks were not regularly cleaned and several of the toilets would not flush. For the privilege of using them we had to pay a £5 deposit for a key. When we fled the following morning the gatekeeper asked if we were coming or going? By this time we had lost the will to live and really did not know!
If you are thinking of visiting this site because of their hype about the red squirrels and the river, forget it. You will not see either for the shanty town of statics. If one caught fire, they would all go up.
We are really loathe to leave bad reviews but this site failed us on every level. We are very experienced tourers and do not leave these comments lightly.
