After reading the reviews on here already for Mains Farm we were very much looking forward to our visit. We had a fantastic weekend at this lovely site. Idyllic setting, not too far from shops, pubs and various attractions nearby.

The new Toilet block is terrific. Basic, absolutely ideal and even a kettle for campers if required. Our children loved the play area, which was perfect for making new friends. The sheep were an absolute bonus too!

The couple who owned the site were lovely, very welcoming and glad to talk to you although they were obviously busy.

We are very much looking forward to returning very soon.

We stayed here for 13 nights in the Easter Holidays and loved every minute of it.

Facilities are basic but clean in lovely old rustic buildings, the whole site has a warm, welcoming rustic feel to it.

Childrens playpark is small but perfectly adequate as there is so much space in the caravan site itself.

Julie and Robert the owners although very busy farmers were always available to answer questions or just to have a chat, lovely people.

Great place for walking, we had a gentle stroll along the riverbank to the quaint little village of Kirkoswald, there are a couple of hotels, 1 of which apparently does amazing food but we never had time to visit. A charming village shop which covers just about everything from coffeeshop to DVD rental to Library.

Within 1. 5miles is also the village of Lazonby which has a decent sized Co-Op and another couple of hotels.

Walking along the riverbank in the other direction takes you to Lacey's Caves and the standing stones of Long Meg and her daughters, well worth a look. There are printed sheets in the information room with a map of the circular walk which you are welcome to borrow.

Penrith is 10miles away and has plenty shops, from large chain stores like Go Outdoors to village shops. Plenty of places to eat here and lovely old cinema showing the latest films.

We will definitely stay at this site again, it's close enough to the popular towns of the Lake District but far enough that you can get away from it all.

They say first impressions count when booking any site, and I must say from the second we phoned the site to inquire about booking, we felt like we couldn't wait to visit. We were dealt with promptly and in a very friendly manner, and they didn't even ask for a deposit once they had our details.

Upon arrival we were met by Julie one of the owners who after showing us to our pitch, gladly took our daughter to show her around the site while we started to pitch the tent.

We were sited on the field normally reserved for Caravans and this was a blessing as it is nearer to the facilities and it totally flat and well drained.

There was plenty of room in the centre of the field to enjoy games etc, without ever feeling that you were encroaching on other guests.

The site is a working sheep farm, and we stayed during the height of lambing season, which added much to the break as newborn lambs were around every day, and despite obviously being a busy time for them, both the owners took time out to make sure we were enjoying our stay and that everything was to our satisfaction, and were happy to stop for a chat whenever you saw them.

This site has a superb quaint appeal as the facilities, Communal Kitchen with complementary tea and coffee, the launderette, shower blocks, day room etc. Are all converted barns and give it a real country feel. If you want sanitized commercial facilities then this site is not for you, it really does make you feel part of the real countryside.

The showers are free and were lovely and warm, but both these and the toilet facilities are limited, so not sure how they would cope with a full site.

The play area is adequate for younger children, and you can walk down to the river through the fields, which takes just a couple of minutes.

There is a General store in the village about a mile up the road, as well as a couple of pubs that also serve meals should you so wish. A pleasant walk in the daytime, but completely unlit at night and may be more than most people want after a few drinks. The Owner does offer to drive you to the pub, a lovely touch, but remember the walk back.

Penrith is approx 10 miles away, a 15-20 minute drive and is a large town with all usual facilities including Supermarkets etc.

As the owners told us though, don't try to park in the centre itself, it is Traffic Warden Hell, instead as advised by them, we parked on Morrisons and took the 10 minute walk down into the town. It is a little steep walking back up.

Overall we had a lovely stay at Mains Farm, and found it excellent value at £20 per night for large tent, 2 Adults, a teenager with electric hook-up.

We rarely visit the same place more than once, but would definitely go back to this site if we did, perfect for a relaxing break, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The owners are lovely people and so laid back, we even had to go and find them to actually pay for our stay.

They are around if you need them, but are never intrusive or overbearing, and you feel completely in charge of your own holiday.

One final note to anyone thinking of paying a visit to this Lovely site. Take a torch. It is completely pitch black at night, remember you really are in the countryside.

We’ve just spent a couple of nights at Mains Farm Camping and Caravan Site in the beautiful Eden Valley. It’s our perfect place to be when we need to get away from it all. It’s always a pleasure to visit here any time of the year.

The Owners are the nicest people that you’ll ever meet. Nothing is too much trouble for them, they are great hosts and are so helpful and knowledgeable about the area.

They were showing me around his newly opened shower/toilet block, which is in a converted barn. This adds a further 6 showers and 6 toilets making a grand total of 11 showers and 11 toilets. We’ve tried the showers, and they are spacious, powerful, and nice and hot!

The block has sockets for your hairdryer etc, with mirrors and shelves, and also 2 extra washing up sinks. It’s a great addition for when the site gets busier and there should be no queuing or waiting for your turn in the showers!

As like other reviews, this is a great place to stay and a lovely area to visit. Neatly tucked away in the countryside with some lovely walks and a great pub in the village (Fetherstone Arms) Watch out for pie night on a Thursday, well worth it – so tasty! (You’ll need to book!)

Really looking forward to our next visit!

We visited Mains farm 12-04-13 to 19-04-13.

From the start of our holiday to the end we found nothing but peace & tranquillity from this site.

Toilet & showers were spotless & kept well stocked. The owner & his wife was both helpful & pleasant. They even went as offering a lift to the local pub if we needed it.

The surrounding area is fantastic, good local walks & shop.

Highly recommended.

We liked it so much we booked to go again before we departed.

This was the first time we have visited this campsite. The owners really made us feel welcome.

The pitches where of good size, and even though it had rain a lot the ground drain very quickly.

The facilities where immaculate, and plenty of hot water. They also had a washing machine and drier.

Supermarket and swimming pool at Lazonby about mile away.

Penrith is about 10 miles away and as several large supermarkets.

I have to agree with the comments made by everyone, this is one of the best campsites we have been to for location, value for money and friendliness.

We shall certainly be back.
